Hidden sugar: the silent driver of chronic disease
Ask the Expert over Lunch session
📅 Wednesday, April 22nd | 12:00–12:45 CET
About this event
The Swiss population consumes around 43 kilograms of sugar per person per year on average. This is more than five times the WHO’s recommended optimal target.
Sugar is present in many everyday foods and excessive intake is associated with several health conditions that reduce healthspan, including metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and dental disease.
We are honored to welcome two leading Swiss experts on the health effects of sugar:
Prof. Dr. med. Bettina Wölnerhanssen
Dr. phil. II Anne Christin Meyer-Gerspach
Both experts are Co-Heads of the Metabolism / Gastroenterology Research Group in Basel and are widely recognized for their work on metabolic health and impact of sugar. They have contributed to numerous podcasts and are frequently invited to discuss this topic on Swiss television. Here an overview.
In this session, they will provide a high level overview of:
- how sugar affects your health
- where hidden sugar can be found in everyday foods
- practical ways to reduce sugar intake
- strategies to minimize its impact on metabolic health
The session will conclude with a live Q&A with participants.
This event is part of the Health2Wealth Healthspan Series, which explores how to understand, plan, monitor, and extend your healthspan – the number of years you live in good health.
