We are very proud to welcome Marialuigia Spinelli as our “Ask the Expert” speaker.

She is uniquely qualified to speak about perimenopause, menopause, and the complex ways hormones, sleep, mood, and brain health interact — especially during major female life transitions.
As a gynecologist with a PhD in Neuroscience and a Master’s in Psycho-Neuro-Endocrino-Immunology, Dr. Spinelli brings a rare, science-driven yet deeply human perspective.

Her clinical work in Aarau and Zurich bridges advanced gynecological care with holistic, integrative medicine, allowing her to explain both biological mechanisms and emotional realities with exceptional clarity.
With over 50 peer-reviewed publications, active research at the University of Zurich, and a focus on women’s mental health — particularly postpartum and during menopause — she is one of the most insightful voices in Switzerland on this topic.
Her belief that “medicine is not only a science, but also an art of presence” makes her contribution especially meaningful for our community.

Below is a personal introduction in her own words:

“I am a gynecologist with a PhD in Neuroscience and a MSc in Psycho-Neuro-Endocrino-Immunology.
Today my focus is women’s mental health across different life stages — especially in the postpartum period and during the transition to menopause.

In my clinical practice in Aarau and Zurich, I combine advanced diagnostic and operative gynecology (hysteroscopy, prenatal ultrasound, infertility care) with a holistic and integrative approach inspired by psychosomatic and anthroposophical medicine.

Alongside my work with patients, I am involved in research and teaching at the University of Zurich. I am currently PI of an ongoing study investigating the therapeutic role of Bryophyllum in dysmenorrhea. Over the years, I have authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, including 10 as first author.

I believe that medicine is not only a science, but also an art of presence. Every woman I meet brings a story, and my task is to listen deeply — whether through ultrasound waves, hormonal rhythms, or unspoken words.

Beyond medicine, I cultivate my passion for the arts and movement. I studied piano at the conservatory. I also practice classical dance, running, Qi Gong, and other mind-body disciplines that support my balance, vitality, and creativity in everyday life.”
